Winnie Harlow: a supermodel who changed the lives of millions
Winnie Harlow is a model from Canada. When the girl was 4 years old, she was diagnosed with vitiligo – a disease that is characterized by white spots on the skin. Unfortunately, in many societies people with vitiligo feel insecure and shy of their appearance. This can severely limit and cause psychological problems.
Winnie, as a teenager, also faced bullying and mockering from her peers.
Everything changed when the girl turned 16 years old. A report was made about her, and Winnie was invited to act as a model. It has changed her whole life, and what it’s also very important, has dramatically changed the lives of millions of people around the world. Many people think that we have reached the time when outdated beauty standards should be changed. We are all different and it is impossible to measure another’s corn by one’s own bushel.
And suddenly, as if by magic, the girls and guys who considered themselves to be ugly turned out to be idols and ideals of beauty for thousands and thousands of people around the world.
“I believe that beauty is in our eyes,” says Winnie. She learned to love herself and inspires everyone to do the same. It is our uniqueness that makes us who we are, and there will always be those who like you the way they are. The most important thing is to please yourself.
