Do you love musicals? This one can be seen again and again. It’s one of the most long-running musical in the world.
The French novel Le Fantôme de l’Opéra by Gaston Leroux had some screen versions. But it became much more popular with the release of lyrics by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Despite intended to be frightening, it turned out to be romantic and touching.
Of course, we all know the movie made by Joel Schumacher and Andrew Lloyd Webber in 2004. It can be admired as well as criticized, but still its success is obvious. “The film looks and sounds fabulous and I think it’s an extraordinarily fine document of the stage show. While it doesn’t deviate much from the stage material, the film has given it an even deeper emotional centre. It’s not based on the theatre visually or direction-wise, but it’s still got exactly the same essence. And that’s all I could have ever hoped for”, says Andrew Lloyd Webber.
