The first floating nation will emerge from the Pacific Ocean by 2020
Floating city still sounds like a science fiction. But in some years it may become a fantastic reality! Seasteading Institute, based in San-Francisco, is planning to open one in the Pacific Ocean, off the island of Tahiti. The project was approved by the government of French Polynesia and by 2020 a big progress in construction is expected.
A city of the future includes homes, offices, hotels and restaurants. The aim of Seasteading Institute is to create an independent nation that will operate on its own laws and experiment on new modes of government and agricultural methods. This unique city is also expected to be a special economic zone and operate with its own trade laws. It is so different comparing with the Palm Island — a floating nation in Dubai!
