A special place: plus-size paradise for plus-size travelers
We got used to go on beach while on holiday. Sun, water, fresh air and unique atmosphere make our rest really special. But there are people who never feel this experience. They don’t want to go a public beach because it’s hard for them to relax and to feel free. Because they worry about their bodies and really struggled to enjoy themselves. These people are plus-size.
Now we have some great news. After a decade working on the idea, James King has finally opened The Resort on an island in the Bahamas.
It is a real paradise for those who don’t like public beaches…
… and a perfect place to relax without any stress in a wonderful and self-positive company of plus-size travelers!
Even the furniture here is specially designed to resist some extra weight. Beds and lounge chairs look like usual ones, but can hold hundreds of pounds!
All the guests point out the unique atmosphere of absolute relax and freedom. No stress, no side glances and no sneer. It is so important to have a sense of emotional safety. It’s wonderful!
“They bond in a commonality,” King says. “It’s people who have lived similar lives with the same issues, and all of a sudden most of the stigmas are gone, because nobody’s staring at them. They just feel like they can identify. A lot of people who come have never met, but after just the first night it’s like they’ve known each other for years.”
The price is $16,400 for a six-night stay (all the meals are included!). But the business is already strong and about 10 percent of guests are repeat customers. “The guests love it, because it really does feel like their own place,” King adds.
