5 Suns in the sky: rare optical phenomenon was caught on camera is Sweden
Tourists of one of the Sweden resorts suddenly saw a rare phenomenon in the winter sky. There were 5 suns at once! No wonder that their videos have immediately gone viral.
From time to time this atmospheric optical phenomena are best seen and most conspicuous when the Sun is near the horizon. It is called a sun dog or, formally, a parhelion and is caused by the refraction of sunlight by ice crystals in the atmosphere.
From observers on Earth, it shows up as bright spots on either side of the sun, and often a bright glowing ring around the sun, called a 22° halo. Looks amazing, isn’t it?
